Los Pericos and Inspector @ Mayag?ez
Short review of Thursday, oct 2 show @ Mayagüez
PR
This was one awesome show, the cover price was only
two dollars and they gave you a free beer and a mug. It was held outdoors in a
large parking lot type place with a huge stage. The first band, rufianes sucked.
They made a sad attempt at playing ska, which in my opinion failed horribly.
They played a lot of covers from other crappy bands that try and play ska for
drunken college kids. i would avoid this band like a plague.
The second band was Inspector, a great ska band from mexico. They put on a great show. Their first song was the James Bond theme and their style is mostly two-tone, in the vein of early Madness. Their set was great. Highly energetic with some slower songs for good measure.
Finally Los Pericos came to stage. This is the third time I’ve seen them and they are always excellent at keeping the crowd dancing. For those who don’t know they play latin reggae/ska/dancehall. Very danceable music. Their set included classics like runaway, Mucha Experiencia, No me pares, some newer songs like Sin Cadenas, and some few cuts from their newest album Desde Cero.
Everything at this show ran on schedule, bands started around 9:00PM the show ended at 1:00AM which is good since I had class at 8:30AM the next day. The sound during Los Pericos was kinda rough, but other than that everything went well.
