Atmosphere @ Emos
Yesterday I went to Emo’s to see Atmosphere play with
a live band.
The show opened with Ground Opening at around 9:30, two MC’s and
one DJ from Dallas TX. They had some minor sound issues, and they didn’t seem
all that special, but they put on a good show nonetheless. After Ground Opening
it was all about the RhymeSayers crew.
The first one to get on stage was
P.O.S., he came up on stage, set up his “Rap Kit” (an ipod hidden by a vintage
boom box), opened with an At the drive in song, and started rhyming. His
delivery was pretty good, I really liked how his style and his lyrics where more
on the political, introspective side of things, which was cool. He interacted a
lot with the crowd too, which is great. I’d Seriously consider buying a P.O.S.
album is i’d see one somewhere.
After
P.O.S. Grayskull came on. One cool thing about them was that they had a live
bassist, and their DJ was pretty good. I really didn’t dig one of the guys style
though, and I don’t think I’d buy a grayskull album based on what I heard at the
Show.
Then came what we all were
waiting for. The band started setting up their gear and Slug came up with the
set list. Wow, that was one incredible performance. Slugs delivery was
impeccable, his control of the crowd was perfect and the band gave a whole new
sound to the beats we all love. He rapped songs from all of the albums, even
some from the recently re-released Headshots: Se7en CD.
I was really close to not going to
this show, and I am really glad I went. The thing I really enjoy about the
rhymesayers crew is that their lyrics are more introspective/political instead
of the money, ho’s, guns etc of the popular Hip-Hop that gets played on the
media
