ACL 2006
October 2nd, 2006This years ACL has passed (a week ago, I know, I’ve been slow with this.) and it was a blast. We saw roughly around 19 bands and walked Zilker park side to side quite a few times. A play by play review including a Thursday show is after the jump, pictures on flickr…
Note: I’ve been sitting on this for a while and still didn’t go into as much detail as I would’ve liked
Ratatat @ Emos
October 2nd, 2006On Thursday we went to see Ratatat at Emos. We first discovered these guys during the summer of 2004 at a The Killers show at Stubbs Indoors (This is quite a small venue which is weird since around August The Killers blew up and the only thing you’d here on was “Somebody Told Me” or “Mr. Brightside”). They were one of the opening bands and we really liked their music, quickly after I got their first album and was saddened quickly by the lack of more of their music. Recently they released their new album “Classics” which met my expectations fully, it was more music that sounded exactly the same as the first album.
For this show we were expecting it to be mildly populated, not empty but not exactly busting at its seams and we also were expecting it to be kind of mellow since Ratatat is not exactly Rocking music. Well I am surprised to say that we were wrong at both counts, the show was actually really full and they actually rocked pretty hard. At the right moments during most of their songs they just went crazy and rocked the place. It was a great show and lots of fun. Pics on flickr
Capitol of Punk
September 20th, 2006I just found out this Podcast/Documentary about the DC Harcore Punk scene which spawned seminal acts such as Minor Threat. The site also includes a walking tour of where things happened.

ACL Schedule 2006
August 31st, 2006The mystery of the missing disk space…
August 21st, 2006I’ve been wondering for a while where my disc space has gone. My MacBook Pro comes with a 100GB hard drive and it currently had roughly 36GB left of space, now let me make sure you understand that this does NOT include photos, music nor movies, all these reside on a separate external disk and our symbolically linked to the Movies, Photos, Music folders in my home folder. I do have a decent amount of stuff running on the machine, dev tools, darwin ports, applications etc, but I still feel like I had less space than I should.
In comes WhatSize an awesome little utility that goes through all your folders (including the bsd subsystem) and lets you know how much space each is taking. Here I saw some peculiarities, like the var folder taking over 20GB of space. I know the swap file resides in /var/vm but that shouldn’t take that much space, so I start digging and in /var/log/smb I see that I have a 18gb log file. 18GB for 1 log file!, and it is suffixed with .old to boot, so I decided to purge the thing, and I recovered my missing HD space.
After googling around, it seems that SharePoints might be responsible for that much logging output, I am not sure though.

I AM…
August 8th, 2006
I am an Asteroid.I am a drifter. I go where life leads, which makes me usually a very calm and content sort of person. That or thoroughly apathetic. Usually I keep on doing whatever I’m doing, and it takes something special to make me change my mind. What Video Game Character Are You? |
